I begrudgingly write this blog post from the overcrowded, hour-and-fifteen-minute-delayed train back from Rhode Island to New York. All weekend I dreaded this train ride back. There’s nothing worse than that feeling when Christmas or vacation is over and knowing you have to face the nasty bite of reality tomorrow. Major urgh. Just take a look at my view from this weekend and you’ll understand why going back to the stinking hot city is the last thing I want to do right now.
But enough negativity. It’s so hard to go back to reality today, because this weekend at my parents’ house in Rhode Island was simply amazing. Starting with morning runs in this sizzling hot sun, cooling off in the pool, coffee at the cute Black Goose Cafe, kayaking in the “pond” behind our house, grilling on our beautiful deck, delicious sandwiches from Provender, and several trips to Gray’s Ice Cream, I was just about ready to move back home forever. I love every single ounce there is to love about the new house and the town. And spending some quality time with my family provided for lots of laughs as always.
Among one of many amazing meals savored over the past few days was our July 4th barbecue. Complete with Summertime Watermelon Punch (from Perpetually Chic), my Caprese-Pesto Chicken Burgers, Ina’s Panzanella Salad, our favorite watermelon & feta Salad, and corn on the cob, it was a very festive, colorful and fresh summer feast. And it wouldn’t be the 4th of July at our house without some s’mores on the grill, too. Just thinking about it is already making me homesick!
Hope your holiday was just as wonderful and tasty!
